Task Description
The scope of this project is the investigation of the behavior of elastomeric bearings during their design and their pilot production that they can be implemented in earthquake resistant design and construction of bridges. The applicability of the present project arises from the fact that a considerable number of bridges were designed and constructed in the past in accordance to older provisions of the earthquake resistant code of Greece which required that those bridges had to resist to lower levels of seismic forces in comparison to the current codes’ provisions (EAK2000).

Expected Results
• Pilot production at the Region of Central Macedonia of this type of bearings. With the successful outcome of the present proposal these bearings could be applied more widely, in the whole of Greece as well as in the South-Eastern Mediterranean area ; moreover, they could be certified followed by the appropriate technical support. Currently, all these products are imported from other developed courtiers.
• Development of the methodology for the experimental and the analytical/numerical investigation / certification of the mechanical properties and upgrade of the pilot production; after the successful conclusion of this project the findings will be implemented into the regular production. This ability will be developed in the Region of Central Macedonia.
• Investigation for the development of the in situ detection for the time-dependant variability of the bearings properties.
• Growth of links between the partners and promotion of other possibilities that will result through this collaboration.
• Utilization of scientific and technical expertise for producing and exporting such products together with certification and technical support.
