Task Description
The subject area for the development of the Regional Technological Platform (RTF) is Broadband Networks – Internet Services (BN-IS).
The imminent development of broadband infrastructure in the Region of Central Macedonia and, on the other hand, the always increasing familiarisation of the public, private sector and the citizens about the opportunities opened up by broadband services, are going to increase demand for broadband content services, applying to miscellaneous activities of financial and social life, such as:
• Education (e-learning applications)
• Health services (telemedicine applications)
• Communication (teleconference, video – audio broadcasting)
• Work (Telecommunting applications)
• Business (e-commerce, e-business)
• Entertainment

The regional technological platform for Broadband Networks – Internet Services (BN-IS) will contribute to the improvement of quality of life and the enhancement of competition, as well. The emerging broadband services and new areas of application in personal, home or business environment are expected to favour business productivity and development of innovative products and services. New services – which are transferred through the Internet or Grids, through wireless or mobile networks, transparently and by means of interactive terminals, integrated in simple devices- favour the digital convergence of –so far – discrete services (Telephony, television, music, internet, computing). The new advances in technology open up tremendous opportunities for business, economy and social life.
